Community members can try the Sacramento Police Department’s Physical Ability Test (PAT) at its annual Female Fitness Challenge on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The free event will be held at McKinley Park (601 Alhambra Blvd.) and is open to people of all fitness levels, from first-time participants to experienced athletes. Those considering a career in law enforcement or looking to challenge their fitness are welcome.
The event also offers opportunities to meet professional staff, speak with recruiters and learn about specialized police units.
“Trying the physical ability test can help participants understand what to expect and where to focus their preparation,” said Allison Smith, public information officer with the Sacramento Police Department. “They can also hear from female officers about their experiences and ask questions about the steps toward a career in law enforcement.”
This year’s challenge will feature the following timed activities:
- 6-foot solid wall/chain-link fence climb.
- A 99-yard obstacle course/agility run.
- A 165-pound body drag.
- A 500-yard run.
Local vendors will also be on-site. Participants will receive a free T-shirt, and the event will include prize giveaways and swag bags.
Anyone taking part in the challenges must be at least 18 years old and bring identification for check-in.
Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the park’s soccer fields, near the corner of Alhambra and McKinley boulevards.
Required waivers will be sent to those who register before Oct. 1. Bring completed waivers to help speed up check-in. A limited number of paper copies will be available at the event.
Participants should bring water, wear workout clothing and arrive early to warm up.
