As part of Sacramento Police Department’s ongoing effort to curb bike theft, the Bait Bike program has been used to stop people in their tracks who take off with stolen bikes. The concept is simple: bicycles are placed in key areas in Sacramento, like business districts, and are equipped with tracking sensors. The bike’s sensors are activated when the bikes are moved. And, once activated, the Sacramento Police Department can track the movement and location of these bikes, which often result into arrests. Since last September, the program has been key for helping Police make 10 arrests.
