Next steps for Community Center Theater project

Following the City Council meeting last Thursday, City staff was given direction on how to proceed with the future renovation of the Community Center Theater.

  • The City Manager’s Office will begin work on construction documents for both the basic and enhanced basic options.  These documents will also include the addition of women’s restrooms and an alternative for a south lobby improvement. Before any work is awarded, construction contracts will go before City Council for consideration and approval.
  • A Mayor’s task force will review new theater options with a preliminary report to City Council within six months, followed by a summary report within one year.
  • The City Manager’s Office, within six months, will provide recommendations to City Council on ways to improve operations and increase the use of the Community Center Theater.

Built in 1974, the Community Center Theater is a staple of the Sacramento community. It is home to season productions for Broadway Sacramento, the Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Opera, Sacramento Community Concerts, Sacramento Philharmonic and Sacramento Speakers Series.
