Amgen Tour of California starts off in Sacramento

The Amgen Tour of California is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an overall start in Sacramento on Mother’s Day. This year’s race is presented locally by Sutter Health who is committed to partnering with patients, their family members, and the community to provide high-value, personalized care. Join us as we celebrate this momentous occasion with a number of community events.

 

Rider Introductions & Opening Ceremonies

Friday, May 8, 6-9 p.m.

As the overall start city for the 2015 Amgen Tour of California, Sacramento will host a free family-friendly kick-off party that will pay tribute to 10 years of America’s Greatest Race and serve as the official team introduction for the 2015 Amgen Tour of California. The celebration will include live music by Garratt Wilkin & The Parrotheads, kid’s activities, food and beverages, and a dazzling fireworks display to cap-off the night. Event attendees are encouraged to cycle to the event and use the free Bike Valet provided by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates. There will be a wide range of food and beverage options, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase during the Celebration. The event is FREE to the public, but a limited number of VIP tickets are available at sacsports.com.

Amgen Tour of California 10th Anniversary Race

Sunday, May 10, 9:30 a.m.

Cyclists will start in front of the State Capitol in Downtown Sacramento at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 10. They will exit downtown on the historic Tower Bridge into West Sacramento towards the Sacramento River.

The course will take riders along the scenic River Road and through some of the region’s most quaint river towns including Courtland, Walnut Grove, Isleton and Rio Vista. They’ll make a turn into Solano County up through Woodland, Davis and then West Sacramento before heading back into downtown for the finish.

Riders are expected back into downtown around 3 p.m. for the finishing circuits around the Capitol.

Sutter Health Community Ride

Sunday, May 10, 1:30 p.m.

Spectators can join the fun in the Sutter Health Community Ride, where anyone with a bike is invited to meet at 1:00 p.m. at 13th and L streets to be led onto the race course for laps around the Capitol from 1:30 – 2 p.m. Make sure to ride your bike down to the event and be a part of the excitement! Free Bike Valet provided by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.
