AMGEN Tour of California takes off Mother’s Day, May 10

First downtown road closures and parking restrictions start the morning of Friday, May 8

The City’s Police and Public Works departments are encouraging motorists to plan ahead for this year’s Amgen Tour of California bicycle race, Sunday, May 10, featuring the world’s most elite bicycle racing teams. Bicycling to the event is encouraged!

The 2015 Amgen Tour of California 10th Anniversary Celebration and Rider Introductions is set for Friday, May 8, at the west steps of the Capitol. On May 10, the men’s race will begin at the State Capitol at 10:45 a.m. The riders will begin from the starting line at 11th Street and L Street and will ride down the eastbound lanes of Capitol Mall over the Tower Bridge. While the men’s course continues through Solano and Yolo counties, the women’s race will begin at 11:15 a.m. and will follow a circuit through downtown. Downtown circuit street closures
To facilitate the set-up of the downtown circuit for both the Amgen Tour of California and the Lifestyle Festival, the following streets will be closed to traffic:

Starting Friday, May 8 at 9 a.m. – Ending Monday, May 11 at 12 a.m.

  • 10th Street (L Street to N Street)

Starting Saturday, May 9 at 6 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Capitol Mall (8th Street to 9th Street)

Starting Saturday, May 9 at 6 a.m. – Ending Monday, May 11 at 12 a.m.

  • 10th Street (K Street to L Street)
  • L Street (9th Street to 12th Street)

Sunday, May 10 from 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

  • Capitol Mall (3rd Street to 9th Street)

Starting Sunday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • 10th Street (J Street to K Street)
  • 18th Street (P Street to L Street)
  • 11th Street (N Street to O Street)
  • 12th Street (N Street to O Street)
  • 13th Street (N Street to P Street)
  • 15th Street (K Street to P Street)
  • 9th Street (L Street to N Street)
  • N Street (9th Street to 18th Street)
  • L Street (19th Street to 12th Street)

On-street parking will be limited
Before and during the event, on-street parking downtown will be limited. Meters in restricted parking areas will be marked “No Parking.” Vehicles parked in restricted areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.

No Parking will be posted on the following streets:
Starting Friday, May 8 at 6 a.m. – Ending Monday, May 11 at 12 a.m.

  • L Street (10th Street to 12th Street)
  • 10th Street (N Street to K Street)
  • L Street (9th Street to 10th Street)
  • 11th Street (N Street to O Street)
  • 12th Street (N Street to O Street)
  • 13th Street (N Street to P Street)
  • 15th Street (L Street to N Street)

Starting Saturday, May 9 at 9 a.m. – Ending Monday, May 11 at 12 a.m.

  • 10th Street (L Street to N Street)

Nearby garage parking will be available
Starting on Saturday at 7 a.m., until 11 p.m., Sunday, 10th Street between J and L streets will be converted from a one-way to a two-way street to facilitate parking at the Capitol Garage.

Due to the large number of spectators anticipated, Parking Services will be monitoring the occupancy of all City garages. As facilities near capacity, drivers will be directed to alternative parking garages.

Parking Services highly recommends using the City Hall Garage at 10th and I streets, Memorial Garage at 14th and H streets, Old Sacramento Garage at 2nd and I streets, the Downtown Plaza West Garage at L and 3rd street, the Downtown Plaza East Garage with entrances on 7th and J Streets, and the Tower Bridge garage off Capitol Mall.
