The City of Sacramento is pleased to announce that Kaiser Permanente has agreed to purchase 18 acres of the Railyards site located downtown near Interstate 5, an area that Mayor Kevin Johnson calls, “The Innovation District.”
“Today’s announcement of a new hospital at the Railyards is a big deal for Sacramento, and we could not be more pleased to be partnering with Kaiser Permanente,” Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said in a released statement.
Not only will having Kaiser Permanente at this location provide ease of access to the high quality healthcare for many Sacramento locals, but it will be able to create thousands of jobs. The Railyards once employed one-third of the Sacramento people, and today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui, announced that she is happy to see that they are able to bring back jobs here.
It’s an exciting time for Sacramento, and there is so much more to come! There have been talks regarding the possibility of the building of a UC Davis institute focused on food issues, housing, Major League Soccer Stadium, a proposed Sacramento County courthouse, and public market that could reside within the Railyards.
