Curious about compost? City to host free seminars for backyard composting

The City of Sacramento Recycling and Solid Waste department is hosting a free seminar for you to learn how to compost in your own backyard! There are two sessions about backyard compost from 8-9 a.m. and 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7 at Fremont Community Garden, 14th & Q Streets. Please RSVP at the Facebook event page.

The seminar will cover information regarding the basics of composting such as how it works, dos and don’ts, getting the right balance of food, air and moisture, maintenance of the compost and, a seasonal gardening topic. Worm Fancy will also be present to demonstrate how to compost with worms.

Those attending will receive a composting guide and GEOBIN Compost bin for a discounted rate of $10 to get you started on the process!

Composting is an earth-friendly process where you recycle your own yard clippings, and fruit and vegetable scraps in to the soil in your backyard!
