The Neighborhood Services Division is hosting the Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The parade will begin at 11 a.m.
This will be the 5th Annual Veterans Day Parade. The parade takes place along scenic Capitol Mall, from 3rd to 9th Street, with the State Capitol on the east and the Tower Bridge on the west. At the conclusion of the parade, on 10th Street between L and N Streets, Neighborhood Services will be hosting a number of activities for families; including local dignitaries, food trucks, carnival rides, face painting and a balloon artist. The program will also include a joint ceremony with the California Mexican American Veterans’ Memorial Committee. The Mexican American Veteran’s Memorial is located directly across from the west steps of the State Capitol.
In keeping with our theme Let’s Step It Up For Our Veterans, our Grand Marshall exemplifies why Sacramento is stepping it up for our veterans. On September 11, 2001, Captain Curt Taras volunteered at the Pentagon while it was burning from the impact of the American Airliner Jet. On the following day, he assisted the FBI in conducting a damage assessment of the Pentagon. Captain Taras served with distinction during the final operational years of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center McClellan Air Force Base. He earned the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious service building, maintaining, and transferring facilities on the base following President Clinton’s base closure announcement.
Neighborhood Services not only wants to thank our veterans but would like to acknowledge our parade volunteers. We appreciate AmeriCorps and the Sacramento Police Cadets from John F. Kennedy High School for their continuous service and dedication in making the annual Veterans Day Parade a great success.
Please join us in “thanking our local heroes,” at the 5th Annual Veterans Day Parade, Wednesday, November 11, 2015, 11 a.m., Capitol Mall.
