The Community Development Department is now accepting applications for its 2016 Citizen’s Planning Academy. The free academy provides participants with a background in the fundamentals of city planning and covers a broad spectrum of planning and development-related topics and issues.

Topics include the development review process, the City’s General Plan, the Planning and Development Code, regional planning, transportation planning, urban design, economic development, affordable housing, and more.

The academy started in 2002 and has 346 graduates. Those who have completed the course leave more informed about the importance of planning and understand the process from start to finish for Sacramento development.

Classes will take place at the Community Development Department, 300 Richards Boulevard. The course consists of eleven weeknight evenings and two Saturday mornings from March 2 to May 17, 2016, followed by a graduation and City Council special presentation.

Sign up early as space is limited. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016. Sacramento residents, business owners and community leaders are invited to apply online with the 2016 Citizen’s Planning Academy application.
