On Thursday, Feb. 11, Viva Supermarket, the first full service supermarket in Del Paso Heights in many years, hosted a special welcome for residents of the community at a public grand opening event that included a ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor Kevin Johnson, Council Member Allen Warren, City Manager John Shirey, Economic Development staff, Owner of Viva Supermarket Sean Loloee, and other community leaders participated in the ceremony.
Viva Supermarket marks a large step in eliminating food deserts by offering fresh meats, produce and other groceries to the Del Paso Heights community, which has not had a full service grocery store for decades.
The opening of Viva Supermarket gives back to the neighborhood’s residents by hiring community members for over 95% of the store’s positions. Residents believe the new grocery store will spark more development in the community.
