The City of Sacramento has made it easier for new businesses to get started and for established businesses to renew their certificate. The City added online processing of Business Operations Tax applications, which previously were required to be submitted by mail or in-person. View the new online service and FAQs.

The service is available 24/7.  An account is active once the application process is completed. Moving this service online also reduces the wait time for customers at City Hall’s Revenue counter for other issues and reduces the volume of mail handling by staff.

All businesses that operate in the city limits or do business with the City of Sacramento must have a Business Operation Tax certificate. The certificate is the equivalent of a business license in other jurisdictions. View more information about the Business Operations Tax.
