Meet the City’s Active Transportation Program Specialist, Jennifer Donlon Wyant

Jennifer Donlon Wyant is the new Active Transportation Program Specialist for the Department of Public Works. As such, Jennifer reviews development projects for bicycle and pedestrian circulation, identifies ways to improve conditions for walking and bicycling, and leads projects to encourage more trips by bicycle or walking. Check out her profile video on Facebook.

One of the many projects Jennifer is taking lead on is the Vision Zero Action Plan. The project will focus on identifying safety challenges to biking, walking, and driving, and addressing those challenges with the goal to improve transportation safety for all. A Task Force will carefully review and guide the process, providing input on actions and strategies to improve safety through engineering, education and enforcement programs.

Also, Jennifer is working with the Transportation Division out of Public Works to update the 2010 Bicycle Master Plan into a shorter, compelling document that clearly communicates the City’s objectives related to bicycling. Although a Bike Plan is designed to plan ways to improve bicycling, everyone can benefit from bicycling. Cities with high rates of bicycling tend to have low crash rates for all road users and homes near bike paths are more valuable than those further away.
