International healthcare company selects Sacramento for its expansion to U.S.

Firm specializes in development and manufacture of diagnosis and treatment technology

TOP GRADE Healthcare, an international manufacturer based in Beijing China, has agreed to expand to the U.S. and chose Sacramento to lease space to develop medical imaging and cancer treatment therapies alongside U.C. Davis’ world renown medical experts.

Larry Burkhardt, Director of the City of Sacramento’s Economic Development Department represented the City at the January 6 signing at the U.S.  Embassy in Beijing, with Ambassador Max Baucus participating.

TOP GRADE will lease 7,872 square feet of space within U.C. Davis’ Institute for Regenerative Cures Research Facilities, which is part of the U.C. Davis Health System on Stockton Boulevard.

Initially, Top Grade Healthcare will employ a highly skilled research team comprised of 10 to 15 individuals based in Sacramento. In addition to research, joint efforts to conduct clinical testing of related technology will be carried out both in China and the U.S.  Phase II of Top Grade Healthcare’s plan will be to assemble a manufacturing operation in the Sacramento Region with potential sales revenue of over $100 million a year.

U.S. Ambassador to China, Max Baucus observes as Top Grade Healthcare Chairman, Sun Qiyin and Mark Romney, Research Facilities Planner, UC Davis, execute agreement that establishes a Top Grade Research and Development facility at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

“This is the type of collaborative partnership we are focused on cultivating between private enterprise, UC Davis and the City of Sacramento. We will continue to work with UC Davis to create more opportunities like this for students, innovation and fostering a creative economy for the region.” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg.

“The new jobs and investment represented by the TOP GRADE decision to locate in Sacramento are anticipated to raise awareness within China of Sacramento as a destination for medical technology investment. Top Grade visited several cities across the United States, including Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Silicon Valley before selecting the U.C. Davis Health System,” said Councilmember Jay Schenirer, whose district includes the health system.

The City of Sacramento’s Trade and Investment Office in Chongqing, China was instrumental in the recruitment of TOP GRADE into Sacramento and their partnership with U.C. Davis Health System.  The Trade and Investment Office was established by the City in 2013.  Since beginning operations, the Office has seen significant success in securing EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program financing from China in support of the Golden 1 Center, and has been instrumental in facilitating student educational exchanges involving California State University, Sacramento, and U.C. Davis.
