City expects to resume renovations in early Spring…
Sacramento is currently experiencing a record year of precipitation. While this is a very positive development for our region, it has led to the temporary suspension of pond renovations at McKinley and Land Parks. The pond basins must be dry in order to successfully clean, regrade, and seal the pond basins before refilling with water. We expect to resume renovations by the end of the expected rainy season, but no later than early May.
Throughout this project the City remains dedicated to minimizing impacts to wildlife. We will continue to follow all relevant laws, regulations, and best practices, just as we did when we delayed the start of these projects last fall in order to allow fledgling waterfowl to mature to flight, and resident turtles to be adopted.
The City will soon pump out standing rain water to expedite drying the pond bottoms and to discourage waterfowl from nesting before the ponds are ready. Additionally, we will conduct a biological survey 48 hours prior to resuming construction to determine if there are any nesting water fowl.
The goal of the renovations is to make the park amenities both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable so they can be enjoyed by generations to come. We will continue to update the community on the progress of the renovations. We apologize for the inconvenience.
