Passion for fashion? Parks open house will showcase its new fashion camp designed for teens

As part of the inaugural Parks Open House, the department will be showcasing many of its diverse programs in support of its mission of empowering youth, strengthening neighborhoods, and providing life-enriching programs for a livable community. The activity-filled day will include a fashion show preview put on by the Agee Fashion Institute (AFI). The organization has partnered with the City of Sacramento to host a fashion camp at the Pannell Community Center, designed to introduce youth, ages 12 to 19, to the world of fashion through the art of design, pattern making, and sewing.

During the open house, teen designers will preview their designs as preparation for their end of the year program, Stilettos on the Runway Youth Explosion Fashion Show. Current students will be on-hand to showcase their work, talk about their experiences, and encourage those interested in fashion to take the first step by signing up for the upcoming fashion camp.

Students under the institute’s professional instruction have received internships, acceptance into top art schools such as FIDM, Parsons, London School of Fashion, and Fashion Institute of Technology. The institute’s goal is to train and develop students to explore career options that lead to success in higher education, employment, and personal improvement in the apparel industry.
