Do Your Thing for the Sun on Eclipse Day!

On August 21, 2017, between 9:00 and 11:30 am, the sun will be in partial eclipse.  This is a big deal for our state because, during the eclipse, California’s ability to produce solar will be reduced by 70 percent!

The City of Sacramento, in partnership with Energy Upgrade California, asks all employees and residents to take the pledge to reduce the use of electricity from 9 to 11:30 am on Eclipse Day.

Pledge to take just one of the following actions:

  • Turn air conditioning thermostats up 2 to 5 degrees.
  • Use only cold water.
  • Shut down at least 3 power strips.
  • Avoid charging electric vehicles or bikes/scooters between 9 am and noon on 8/21.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights.
  • Avoid charging electronic devices between 9 am and noon on 8/21.
  • Unplug appliances not in use during the eclipse (e.g., toasters, microwaves, TV, printer, fax machine, copiers, etc.).
  • Replace your light bulbs with LEDs.
  • Keep windows and doors closed to prevent conditioned (cooled) air from escaping.

Join us and take the pledge to Do Your Thing for the Sun at: www.CalEclipse.org.
