City celebrates grand opening of the Carlson Drive Improvement Project

On Friday, August 25 City staff and community members celebrated the grand opening of the Carlson Drive Improvement Project. The completed project will enhance bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicular safety, reduce driver confusion and encourage active transportation within the area, especially for the River Park Community and Sacramento State students.

Improvements include:

  • New sidewalks, crosswalks, marked green bike lanes, bike boxes, new two-stage left turns for bicyclists, and upgraded signals to improve visibility
  • The City’s very first bike traffic signal, allowing bikers to have the intersection all to themselves while making a left turn
  • A crosswalk across J Street from the Sacramento State parking lot, allowing students to easily get to campus

The project’s completion signifies the City’s commitment to making a transportation system that is safe and easy to navigate for all ages and physical abilities. The project brings us one step closer to building a complete bicycle network with low stress connections.
