Excessive heat prompts City to open temporary cooling center

With excessive high temperatures, the City’s Office of Emergency Services is monitoring conditions and the evenings are not going to be sufficiently cool. Together with the County, the City is opening up a temporary cooling center tomorrow through the weekend.

Hart Senior Center will open Thursday, Aug. 31 and remain open at least through Monday, Sept. 4. Hart Senior Center is located at 915 27th Street.  The center will be open from  1- 8 p.m. Parks and Rec staff and volunteers will be manning the center. These are among other area cooling centers listed at 211 – a health and human service referral hotline.

The City relies on the NWS for weather guidance. The high Thursday is expected to be 105, Friday 111 and Saturday 109. The low Thursday nights get is expected to be 75, Friday night 78, and Saturday night 75.
