Gearing up for the launch of the City’s electric vehicle initiatives

The City of Sacramento is in the process of launching several electric vehicle (EV) initiatives. With new changes in place, the City released a website including updated EV resources and information.

The website highlights various projects including the new interactive EV parking map, with information on charging locations in the City. The City’s EV Map App shows the approximately 500 public and workplace charging locations within the community. New on-street charging options will be available by mid-2019, as a result of the City’s partnership with EVgo. EVgo will initially construct and operate three high-power fast chargers at Southside Park, with potential for an additional three chargers.

In addition, residents can learn more about the Green City Initiative. Under the new partnership, Electrify America, a Volkswagen Subsidiary will invest $44 million in Sacramento by 2020 to catalyze a transformational shift in mobility to zero-emission technologies by installing charging infrastructure, conducting outreach and education, and implementing programs designed to increase access to and use of ZEVs.

Council directed staff to undertake these efforts as part of preparation for an EV strategy for the City. View the staff report for more information.
