–Monday Garbage Collection will Occur on Christmas & New Year’s Day-

Last day for City Yard Waste Service Customers to put out trees and leaves is January 31, 20187

City of Sacramento residential yard waste customers can place trees in the street for pickup as part of the City’s Leaf Season service.  The last day that trees, or any yard waste, can be placed out on the street for collection is January 31, 2018. City customers can find out when the next on-street collection is estimated for their address by checking the Leaf Season collection calendar at or calling 311.

Monday, December 25 and January 1 are both regular collection days for City recycling and solid waste customers. Containers should be out at the curb by 6 a.m. for pickup.

Holiday Tree Recycling Guidelines:

  • Trees should be clean of all lights, tinsel, decorations etc. and have no stand attached.
  • Flocked trees will be accepted.
  • The city will collect up to five (5) trees. Loads in excess of five trees will only be accepted at:
    • Elder Creek Recovery & Transfer Station,
    • Kiefer Landfill, and the
    • North Area Recovery Station.
  • Make sure there is space between the curb and tree to allow water to flow to storm drains.
  • Do not place trees in bike lanes.
  • If you miss the citywide tree collection you can put your tree in your yard waste container. The tree must be cut into pieces that will fit completely into the container with the lid closed. It will be collected on your next weekly collection day.
