On this day, 17 years ago, 343 New York Fire Department (NYFD) Firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade center. In remembrance, firefighters from around Northern California honored all 343 fallen officers during Sacramento’s 10th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. The climb began at 8 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, at the Renaissance Tower in downtown Sacramento.

Firefighters climbed 110 stories in full uniforms, bearing the name of a fallen officer, to tribute those who were lost. Once firefighters reach the end of their climb, the final bell was rung as each name was placed on the 9/11 Memorial.
Today, we honor innocent lives lost and remember sacrifices made. Find ways to commemorate by visiting 9/11 Day.
