Following a call for innovative design ideas, 12 firms submitted proposals to reimagine the Old Sacramento Waterfront as part of Sacramento Waterfront Idea Makers.
The City sought firms or teams to boldly reimagine Old Sacramento and its connection to the waterfront by generating concepts that enhance the district’s historic ambiance, aesthetic appeal, visitor experience.

“We’re exceedingly pleased by the range of firms who clearly have a passion for crafting the Old Sacramento Waterfront into something special,” said Innovation & Economic Development manager Michael Jasso. “The submissions represent extremely high caliber national and local experience.”
Up to seven of the firms will be interviewed by City staff and other stakeholders. Out of the seven firms, five firms will be chosen to be Waterfront Idea Makers. The Waterfront Idea Makers will be announced on Dec. 10:

- Atlas, Sacramento
- LPA, Irvine
- Glabe & Taylor, Sacramento
- RSM Design, San Clemente
- Gates & Associates, San Ramon
- Stantec, Sacramento
- Ascent/Jacobs, Sacramento
Five Waterfront Idea teams will receive $10,000 each to develop their concepts. They also will be eligible for a $5,000 award “People Choice” award determined through a popular vote.
With input from residents and other stakeholders, the City ultimately will choose among the concepts and decide what to implement. Participants in the program can continue to work with the City as the designs are brought to reality.
