City will pick up your holiday tree but only until this date in January

City of Sacramento residential yard waste customers can place holiday trees in the street for pick-up as part of the City’s leaf season service.

The last day that trees — or any yard waste — can be placed out on the street for collection is Jan. 27, 2019.

Customers can see an estimated date for their next on-street collection by checking the leaf season schedule at www.sacrecycle.org or calling 311.

Holiday Tree Recycling Guidelines:

  • Trees should be clean of all lights, tinsel, decorations etc. and have no stand attached.
  • Flocked trees will be accepted.
  • The City will collect up to five trees. Loads in excess of five trees will only be accepted at: Elder Creek Recovery & Transfer Station, Kiefer Landfill and the North Area Recovery Station.
  • When placing the tree on the street, make sure there is space between the curb and tree to allow water to flow to storm drains. Do not place trees in bike lanes.
  • If you miss the citywide tree collection you can put your tree in your yard waste container. The tree must be cut into pieces that will fit completely into the container with the lid closed. It will be collected on your next weekly collection day.

Free Drop-off Events for Residents Who Do Not Receive City Service:

On-street tree collection is for residential customers who receive yard waste service from the City. Those who do not receive residential yard waste services from the City should use one of the free drop-off events listed below or find another legal disposal method for their tree. Improper disposal of holiday trees on city streets is considered illegal dumping. Please note the specific dates and times for free tree drop-off.

Please remove all tinsel, lights, tree stands, and nails and flocked trees are accepted at all locations. Limit five trees per vehicle*. Trees can also be recycled for free at the following locations:
