Leaf season, the claw

City’s leaf-pile pickup returns to normal 14-day schedule

It took weeks of work and additional shifts, but the City’s leaf-pile collection has returned to its normal 14-day schedule.

An intense late-season leaf drop and a series of wet weather systems created heavier-than-expected loads for the Claws and their crews, causing the street clean-up rotation to extend from 14 days between pickups to around 20 days.

“City crews have been working hard, hauling away twice the normal leaf tonnage these last two weeks,” said Jerome Council, Integrated Waste General Manager. “Their efforts are much appreciated, especially for those who worked on the added Sunday collections.

“We also want to thank the residents who continued to fill their yard waste bins for the weekly containerized collection,” Council said. “The streets where cans were used in conjunction with piles had more parking consistently available, and were swiftly cleared, allowing crews to move on to the next street that much faster.”

The City’s annual street leaf collection continues through Jan. 27. Visit sacrecycle.org for the status on collection in your neighborhood. You also can sign up for text alerts there about leaf collection.
