The City of Sacramento’s Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) has launched a new web page that offers easy-to-access information about City-supported programs dedicated to helping young people succeed.
“As we move the department forward, our goal is to push the narrative of ‘Success Through Excellence,'” said Shannon Brown, interim YPCE director. “One avenue to accomplish that goal is by improving, promoting and advocating for youth, parks and recreation services through more direct communications.”
Highlighted programs on the new web page include the annual Summer @ City Hall. The six-week summer program, which is open to all high school sophomores and juniors, provides young people with the opportunity to learn about local government and how to become an active member of the community.
Students in the program are supported by certified teachers who deliver a curriculum focused on civic engagement and youth development. The program is a collaboration between the City, Sacramento City Unified School District, Twin Rivers School District , Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) and WayUp Sacramento.

Other youth programs highlighted on the new web page include:
- Sacramento Youth Commission
- Youth Employment (Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, Landscape & Learning and Prime Time Teen)
- Extended Learning (Youth After School Programs, Youth Sports and Summer Programs, and 4th R Youth Child Care).
In 2018, the City’s parks department underwent a reorganization and renaming, becoming Youth Parks & Community Enrichment. The renaming reflected the Council-adopted focus of supporting the city’s youth.
The new youth division web page is one of the first steps to align the City’s youth programs under a unified framework, Brown said.
