Watch world-famous taiko performance on the steps of Memorial Auditorium, May 5

World-famous taiko drumming group, Shidara, will be hosting a free public demonstration of their explosive musical style on the steps of Memorial Auditorium for a one-time experience.

This is normally a paid event, but Shidara has graciously offered to perform for the Sacramento public after a flight delay caused the original performance to be cancelled. The native drumming group from Japan will host their thunderous talents on Sunday, May 5 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m at 1515 J Street.

“Given that the group has traveled so far, we’re delighted Shidara offered to perform with a free event that the public can enjoy,” said Matthew Voreyer, general manager of the Memorial Auditorium, Convention Center and Community Center Theater. “We’re excited to experience the thunderous sounds of the Taiko drums resonating off the historic facade of the  Memorial.”

Since their inception in 1989, Shidara has toured world-wide, including Japan, Europe and the Unites States. The group is a professional taiko drumming team that preserves the waning folk traditions of Japan through song, music and dance.
