Front Street Animal Shelter seeks help in investigating multiple dogs found dead in a trash can

City of Sacramento Animal Control on Aug. 4 responded to the 1400 block of Wacker Way in South Sacramento to a report of multiple dead dogs. Upon arrival, officers discovered six deceased black-and-white pit bull mixes in a trash can.

The dogs were approximately four to five months old and appear to have died around the same time. None of the dogs were micro chipped or wearing collars. The trash can is an older County of Sacramento can with the letters “LE” painted on the exterior. The lettering appears to be worn from time.

A nearby video surveillance device confirmed that the can was dropped off at the location sometime between 5 and 8 p.m. on Aug. 1.

Animal Control is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying who dropped off the garbage can or the dogs’ owner(s). Additional information is needed to determine the exact nature of events in order to ascertain whether a criminal investigation is merited, investigators said.

If you have information regarding this case, please call Chief Animal Control Officer, Jace Huggins at 916-808-5855.
