Crews prepare for weekend storm, City asks residents to help keep storm drains clear

A storm system is expected to affect the Sacramento area this weekend with wind and rain likely to cause downed tree limbs and some localized flooding.

The storm, which begins on Friday evening, could bring several inches of rain, and a wind advisory has been issued for the Sacramento valley, according to the National Weather Service.

The City is asking residents to prepare with a few easy tips.

  1. Prepare for the commute.  Drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel and watch for loose debris on the roads like tree branches.
  2. Secure loose debris around your home. Residents should remove loose objects outside such as lawn furniture.
  3. Report any flooding or hazards. Call 311 to report street flooding, trees down or traffic signals out. Crews are on-hand to respond to requests. Power outages should be reported to SMUD by calling 1-888-456-SMUD (7683).
  4. Call 911 in case of emergencies.

City crews on watch

Crews from the departments of Utilities, Public Works, Police will be monitoring the storm throughout the weekend to respond to issues that may occur, including clogged drains and clearing debris from sidewalks and roads.
