City Hall parking garage on I Street reopens to the public

The City of Sacramento’s parking garage at 1001 I St. has reopened to the public. The City Hall parking garage closed after a vehicle fire in March caused damage to a section of the second floor.

The City worked closely with structural engineers as well as construction consultants to perform the required repairs for the garage to reopen at approximately 90% capacity.

The City Hall parking garage currently has 931 of the total 1035 parking spaces available for use. The garage is open for parking 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“This parking garage is an important asset to the community,” said the City’s Parking Manager Matt Eierman. “As we recover from the pandemic, the parking garage will continue to support the economic vitality of our downtown.”

The City is working on plans to bring the garage back to full capacity. That work, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, should not require the parking garage to be closed again, officials said.
