Here is how to easily dispose of your holiday tree

City of Sacramento residential yard waste customers can place up to five trees in the street for pickup as part of the City’s Leaf Season service. Trees and yard waste should be kept out of bike lanes and away from drains.

The last day that trees, or any yard waste, can be placed out on the street for collection is Feb. 6, 2022.

“If you miss the citywide tree collection, trees can be cut up and put into your yard waste container,” says Jesa David, media and communications specialist for the Recycling and Solid Waste Division. “Flocked trees will be accepted, but artificial decorations like tinsel or lights must be removed.”

Customers can check the collection calendar to see an estimate of when their tree will be removed.

Residents who do not receive City yard waste service should use one of the free drop-off events listed below or find another legal disposal method for their tree. Improper disposal of holiday trees on City streets is considered illegal dumping.

All tinsel, lights and decorations must be removed. Flocked trees are accepted at all locations. Limit five trees per vehicle. More information can be found at our website.
