More frequent street cleaning starts this month in Sacramento

City of Sacramento residents soon will see increased street cleaning in their neighborhoods.

The Recycling and Solid Waste Division this month is implementing more frequent service, increasing street sweeping from once every six weeks to every four weeks during the sweeping season of February through October.

“We are excited to be able to expand our service this February and provide monthly street sweeping to our customers,” says Jesa David, media and communications specialist for the Division. “The sweepers help keep our storm drains clear and City streets clean, so we know our customers will welcome the more frequent service.”

To find out when the sweeper will be making the rounds on a block, customers can download the free SacRecycle app or visit the Collection Calendar page at SacRecycle.org

By entering a service address on the app or website, customers will see a calendar for all their waste collection services, including street sweeping.

Customers can also register to receive a text or email reminder the day before a service occurs, so the correct containers can be placed out for collection or cars can be moved for sweeping.

If a sweeping route cannot be completed, a notice will be sent to impacted customers who have signed up for text and email reminders. A sweeping make-up day will be posted on the calendar, usually within the same week as the originally scheduled sweeping day.

Calendars are specific for each customer’s address. For multi-family dwellings, the unit that is the utility billing address is the one tied to the calendar. Commercial properties, such as businesses or apartment buildings, have private garbage service and will see only sweeping dates.

The Recycling and Solid Waste Division sweeps more than 150,000 miles of public right-of-way every year. More information on street sweeping can be found on the website here.
