City of Sacramento and local nonprofits team up for multiple back-to-school health fairs across the city Aug. 6

The City of Sacramento is teaming up with local community-based organizations to host three back-to-school health fairs across the city on Saturday, Aug. 6.

The health fairs will offer free entertainment, free food and free back-to-school backpacks with school supplies. Free COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots also will be available. Those who receive a COVID-19 vaccine or booster will be eligible for a gift card. *

The fairs will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center (450 West El Camino Ave.), the Oak Park Community Center (3425 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.), and the Maple Neighborhood Center (3301 37th Ave.)

Staged in different neighborhoods across Sacramento, the fairs are part of the City’s ongoing campaign to provide COVID-19 information and resources to residents and increase local vaccination rates.

“As students prepare to return to the classroom – and as COVID infections continue to climb — it’s important to make sure our children are safe,” said Lynette Hall, the City’s community engagement manager. “These health fairs are just another way the City of Sacramento is working to help keep our communities and neighborhoods informed and protected while having some fun as well.”

“We are very proud to be participating in the upcoming health fair and in the City’s overall vaccination campaign,” said Julie Rhoten, Stanford Settlement’s executive director. “The support we received from the City during this campaign has allowed us to help more people in our community navigate the vaccination process. We were able to bring on a vaccine ambassador to assist residents and address their questions about vaccines, follow up with them to get their needed second shots or boosters and hold more vaccination events at our community center.”

The City’s campaign is funded by money received as part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act. For more information and additional resources, please visit sacramentocovidrelief.org.
