VIDEO: With Sac Fire she found a career, second chance at life for her husband

In 2005, Debra Jackson found herself in a two-week temporary assignment with the Sacramento Fire Department. Shortly after, she was hired full time.

Now, 17 years later, she is a Customer Service Representative at the Sacramento Fire Department.

Jackson works for the Code Enforcement and New Construction departments to help customers submit and meet requirements for building and tenant improvement plans.

For Jackson, working for the Sacramento Fire Department is more than just a job. Not only does it feel like a second home for her, she said, but thanks to SFD firefighters, her husband got a second chance at life.

Jackson’s husband endured a heart attack four years ago. Within two minutes, SFD Station 60 was at her house and had revived her husband, who had flatlined. SFD first responders took him to the hospital, helping to save his life.

“I’m so grateful for the family of firefighters who brought my husband back,” Debra Jackson said. “Our department is the absolute best department I have ever worked with and for.”

Jackson said that she felt that SFD stood by her and supported her during that incredibly difficult period, showing her “love and compassion.”
