This July 22 ‘garden showcase’ event will increase your water wisdom

City Department of Utilities staff are inviting people to a July 22 event called the “Water Wise Garden Showcase” to learn about gardening and watering wisely.

The showcase will feature experts on efficient irrigation practices, landscape designers, plant nurseries and information on City water-saving rebates.

We are looking to build on last year’s successful showcase by adding more vendors, more talks and overall, better showcasing the variety of water wise gardening resources available to the public,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator.

The event is from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Department of Utilities campus (1395 35th Ave.) and short educational talks will be available from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m.

Here is a list of vendors that will be featured:

  • Save Our Water
  • Hunter Industries
  • Green Acres
  • Mother Natives Plant Nursery
  • California Native Plant Society, Sacramento Chapter
  • UC Master Gardeners of Sacramento County
  • Brodeur Landscapes
  • Water Wise Landscapes
  • Ecological Systems Design
  • Living Systems Landscape
  • City of Sacramento water conservation team

People can RSVP for the event by going to the Department of Utilities Facebook page and clicking on the “Going” button. An RSVP is not required to attend but helps staff plan for the event.

“We had about 300 people attend last year and hope to see even more this year,” Granger said.

Raffle prizes will be available to people who attend and are present during the raffle.
