Student loan repayment is resuming. Here’s how the Sacramento Financial Empowerment Center can help

Concerned about the impact that resuming student loan payments will have on your budget?

The City of Sacramento’s Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) can help local residents prepare and budget for additional expenses such as paying off existing student loans.

“With student loan payments resuming in October, borrowers may find it harder to balance their checkbooks and plan ahead financially,” said Amy Williamson, the City’s financial empowerment manager. “The City’s FEC coaches can help all adult Sacramento residents navigate changes while building financial health.”

This free service can help Saramentans:

  • Understand student loan repayment options
  • Examine and rework their budgets so they can make monthly student loan payments
  • Weigh the pros and cons of repayment options relative to the long-term impacts on credit scores and interest expenses

The FEC supports Sacramento residents in building long-term financial health through reducing debt, building savings, improving credit, and/or connecting with safe, affordable checking/saving accounts.

Personalized, one-on-one professional coaching services are available in English, Spanish, Dari/Farsi, and Urdu and are free to all Sacramento residents 18 and older.

Request an appoint on the City’s website or call 916-808-4927. For more information, visit the FEC website here.

The FEC coaching team is employed by the Sacramento office of International Rescue Committee in partnership with the City.
