Apply to be a ‘community ambassador’ to help engage city of Sacramento communities

The City of Sacramento is once again recruiting “community ambassadors” to build and maintain relationships with community partners and residents who represent culturally and linguistically diverse populations and historically underrepresented communities.

Led by City’s Neighborhood Development Action Team (NDAT), the program provides a stipend to active community members to assist in promoting City services and communications by sharing information with their networks and respective communities.

“This initiative is driven by the goal of eliminating cultural or language barriers that might hinder access to information, resources, and opportunities,” said the City’s Community Engagement Manager Lynette Hall. “The City is committed to making a meaningful impact by offering support through stipends, providing comprehensive training for ambassadors, and establishing a consistent platform for sharing information and fostering dialogue.”

Community ambassadors, who will receive $6,000 a year as part of their stipend, are expected to serve as a liaison between the City and community and are required to attend monthly meetings to discuss upcoming community engagement activities, events, and efforts of the City and share community events, needs and concerns.

2023 Community Ambassadors

Community ambassadors are also able to receive funding to put toward special projects like supporting community events. Past special projects have included supporting a workshop explaining the City’s 311 service and a youth banquet centered around promoting youth programs from the City’s Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment (YPCE).

The 18 community ambassadors will serve a one-year term from January 2024 through February 2025.

Those interested can apply online by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 12. Learn more about the community ambassador program on the City’s website.
