Join Utilities staff for free webinar on home leak detection and repair

The City’s Department of Utilities is inviting residents to a free webinar March 21 that will help them find and fix leaks in and around their homes.

“Having the knowledge to find and fix leaks is a great way to save water and money,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator. “This webinar will cover common household leaks and the simple steps you can take to repair them.”

People can register online for the webinar, which is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.

“Finding leaks can be as easy as taking a 10-minute walk through your home or looking at your utility bill or water meter,” said Granger. “We’ll also be showing people how to set leak alerts and track how much water they are using online.”

The webinar is part of “Fix a Leak Week” from March 18 to 24, which is hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program.

According to WaterSense, leaks can cause the average household to waste nearly 10,000 gallons of water each year, and fixing simple leaks can help homeowners save about 10 percent on their water bills.
