The City of Sacramento now is accepting applications for its City Management Academy (CMA), a program to educate and encourage partnerships between the City, its residents and business owners to help maintain, revitalize and promote healthy communities.   

Offered through the Office of Innovation and Economic Development, the academy is a multi-week instructional course that teaches participants about how the City of Sacramento functions.  

“This program is crucial in fostering a deep understanding and active partnership among residents, business owners, and City officials,” said City Community Engagement Analyst Jessica Davalos-Prieto. “The academy not only informs but also inspires, creating a collective commitment to improving the quality of life in Sacramento.” 

The academy will be held in-person 5:30 – 9 p.m. Wednesdays Sept. 4 through Nov. 6.  

CMA curriculum features guest lectures from elected officials and department staff. Topics range from day-to-day operations to budget development and the public policy process.   

The program will feature more than 20 City departments and divisions with a civic engagement activity. One to two optional field trips will be planned throughout the program. In addition, the program will have childcare accommodations for children ages 6-15 to make the academy more accessible for families.

To be eligible, applicants must reside in the City of Sacramento or own a business in the city. Applicants must also be at least 16 years old. A $50 materials fee will apply to participate in the program. The materials fee can be waived on a case-by-case basis.
