City activates cooling center June 22-23

With the National Weather Service forecasting a heat advisory for Saturday, June 22,  the City of Sacramento will activate the Outreach and Engagement Center as a cooling center where residents can find relief from the heat.

The OEC (3615 Auburn Blvd.) will operate from 10 a.m. Saturday (June 22) to 8 a.m. Sunday (June 23). The center has storage available for personal belongings if needed and will accept pets.

In addition to air-conditioning, the site will offer water and places to recharge phones and other devices. If you need assistance in accessing weather respite, please call 311 and make a self-referral to be connected to an outreach worker.

During this time, libraries and community centers will also be available during their normal hours of operation, and people can also use these air-conditioned buildings as places to cool off.

The City will continue to monitor the NWS’s forecast and extend cooling-center operations as needed. The City will also monitor capacity at the OEC to determine if other activations are necessary.

Please call 2-1-1 or visit their website for more information on respite centers.
