Due to the continuing high temperatures, the City of Sacramento is extending cooling center operations at the Outreach and Engagement Center and the Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center.
The OEC (3615 Auburn Blvd.) will remain open through 8 a.m. Sunday, July 14. The center can accommodate up to 50 guests at a time, offers storage for personal belongings if needed, and allows pets.
During this time, libraries and community centers will be open during their normal hours of operation, providing air-conditioned spaces for anyone needing to cool off.
Residents are also encouraged to visit City spray parks and pools to beat the heat.
Additionally, the County of Sacramento has extended activation of its cooling centers. Click here for the latest information.
Sacramento Regional Transit will continue to provide free rides to and from the cooling centers. Residents are not required to show a copy of a flyer. Simply inform the driver that the destination is a cooling center to receive a free ride.
The City will continue to monitor the National Weather Service’s forecast and extend cooling center operations as needed. The City will also monitor capacity at the OEC to determine if other activations are necessary.
Please call 2-1-1 or visit their website for more information on respite centers.
