With the National Weather Service forecasting triple-digit high temperatures for the coming days, the City of Sacramento will activate the Outreach and Engagement Center and the Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center as cooling centers where residents can find relief from the heat.
The OEC (3615 Auburn Blvd.) will operate from 2 p.m. Friday (July 19) to 8 a.m. Wednesday (July 24). The center has storage available for personal belongings if needed and will accept pets.
The Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center (2450 Meadowview Road) will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays (July 19, 22, and 23) and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday (July 20). The site does not allow pets and personal storage will be limited to what visitors can carry with them.
In addition to air-conditioning, the site will offer water and places to recharge phones and other devices. If you need assistance in accessing weather respite, please call 311 and make a self-referral to be connected to an outreach worker.
The City will continue to monitor the NWS’s forecast and extend cooling-center operations as needed. The City will also monitor capacity at the OEC to determine if other activations are necessary.
Please call 2-1-1 or visit their website for more information on respite centers.
