Fall and winter are coming. Attend one of these City workshops to help get your garden ready

As the seasons begin to change, the City’s Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment is offering a series of workshops at local community gardens designed to help gardeners prepare for the fall and winter seasons.

The workshops will cover a variety of topics, including cool weather vegetables, soil preparation, proper planting and spacing, companion planting, and addressing frequently asked questions from gardeners.

“Whether you’re looking to start a new garden or improve your existing one, these workshops are a great way to gain knowledge and get your garden ready for the cooler months ahead,” said Shawn Aylesworth, the City’s park maintenance manager.

There are four different classes available, each hosted at a different community garden around the city on a Saturday. Here are the dates and locations:

 8-10 a.m. Aug. 24
MLK Jr Community Garden
3668 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

8-10 a.m. Aug. 31
Sojourner Truth Community Garden
7365 Gloria Drive

8-10 a.m. Sept. 7
Wildrose Community Garden
5200 Kankakee Drive

8-10 a.m. Sept. 14
Healthy Roots Community Garden
401 McClatchy Way
