The City’s water conservation team is inviting Sacramento residents to a webinar on March 18 that can help them save water and money by finding and fixing common household leaks.

People can sign up online for the free event, which will take place from noon to 1 p.m.

“Household leaks may seem small, but they can waste thousands of gallons of water and dollars every year,” said William Granger, the City’s water conservation coordinator.

According to staff, toilets, stuck irrigation valves and dripping faucets are among the most common household leaks.

Customers who repair leaks may qualify for City rebates of up to $250 for minor leaks and up to $500 for major leaks.

“Fixing leaks is often easier and more affordable than many people think,” said Granger. “With these rebates, we want to help residents take action, save water and lower their bills.”

The webinar is part of “Fix a Leak Week,” which runs from March 17 to 23 and is hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program.

According to WaterSense, 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day and repairing simple leaks can save homeowners about 10 percent on their water bills.
