North Sacramento’s T&Y Market earns City Small Business of the Year honor

T&Y Market has been selected as the City of Sacramento Office of Innovation and Economic Development’s Small Business of the Year, recognizing the North Sacramento business for its longevity, community impact and continued innovation.

The award will be presented at the Capital Region Small Business Awards on Wednesday, May 6, at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a luncheon, awards ceremony and business expo as part of Capital Region Small Business Week and National Small Business Week.

“Small businesses are essential to Sacramento’s economic vitality and to the vibrancy of our neighborhoods,” said Sacramento City Manager Maraskeshia Smith. “We are proud to partner in this year’s Capital Region Small Business Awards to recognize the entrepreneurs and innovators who are driving growth, creating jobs and shaping the future of our region. Their impact is felt across our community, and we remain committed to supporting their continued success.”

The event is open to the public and tickets are available online.

The City is partnering with the Sacramento County Office of Economic Development, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the California State Treasurer’s Office to host this year’s event, which highlights small businesses that drive innovation, create jobs and strengthen the regional economy.

“T&Y Market is honored to be awarded by the City of Sacramento’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development, an achievement made possible by the amazing support of our community, customers and dedicated team” said Julie Lynhiavue, CEO of T&Y Market. “This recognition celebrates our love for international grocery foods and we are so grateful to have served the community we call home for the past 30 years and counting!”

T&Y Market, located on Norwood Avenue, has served the community for more than 30 years and is widely recognized as a cultural and economic anchor in North Sacramento. The family-owned business offers a wide range of international grocery items and supports the region’s Hmong community while contributing to neighborhood vitality.

City staff from the Office of Innovation and Economic Development selected T&Y Market following a competitive evaluation process based on business growth, innovation, community impact and engagement with City resources.

In addition to its economic contributions, T&Y Market supports local youth and families through community events and partnerships, including efforts tied to the nearby Las Palmas Elementary School, and continues to explore opportunities to expand its services.

T&Y Market will be recognized alongside other regional honorees during the May 6 awards ceremony.
