The City of Sacramento’s Community Development Department (CDD) is hosting an open house to help new or emerging developers learn how to navigate the building process.
The open house will be held Wednesday, May 6, from 3-5 p.m. at 300 Richards Blvd. 2nd Floor in room 221. Participants will have the opportunity to meet directly with City staff from Planning, Building, Development Engineering, Public Works, and Utilities.
As part of an ongoing effort to lower barriers to entry level development and provide more streamlined services, CDD is continuing its pilot open house series for small-scale developers through its Small Developer Incubator Program.
This open house is intended for property owners, small scale developers, builders and designer professionals. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register for the open house and bring their ideas, preliminary drawings and questions.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity to customers again, providing a streamlined space where they can discuss their projects with staff from different disciplines all in one place,” said CDD’s Senior Planner Greta Soos. “Whether someone is interested in adding an accessory dwelling unit on a property or building a small-scale, multi-unit development on a vacant parcel, the City is here to help.”
The City piloted a Small Developer Incubator Program in 2025. While the same level of programming will not be led by the City in 2026 and beyond, events like this open house event are being continued in efforts to provide resources to small developer communities.
The goals of the Small Developer Program are to create a network of developers and contractors who are invested in the economic health and vitality of local Sacramento neighborhoods and build local capacity to develop smaller-scale housing solutions to address the city’s housing shortage.
