The Shop 916 gift card promotion is relaunching, making it easier to support local businesses ahead of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduation season. From now through July 15, 2026, shoppers can receive bonus spending when purchasing Shop 916 gift cards.
“The Shop 916 program connects residents with local retailers while supporting small businesses across the city,” said Valerie Mamone, the City’s project development manager responsible for the program. “This promotion provides an added benefit for those planning purchases for upcoming celebrations.”
Promotion details:
- Buy a $25 gift card, get a $10 bonus card
- Buy a $50 gift card, get a $25 bonus card
- Buy a $100 gift card, get a $50 bonus card
Shoppers can purchase gift cards at shop916local.com. Bonus cards are limited to three per purchaser and must be used by Aug. 31, 2026.
Since the program’s launch in 2021, over $1.3 million in Shop 916 gift cards and bonus cards have been sold, and nearly 20,000 gift cards have been circulated across 131 participating merchants.
Volume discount program
Shop 916 offers a volume discount program for organizational purchases, including employee recognition, incentives, customer or volunteer appreciation and promotional use. The program waives card fees; the current promotion does not apply to bulk purchases.
Free participation for eligible businesses
All local storefront retailers located in the city can participate. The program is open to all businesses within the city of Sacramento that have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees. Home-based businesses, franchises, liquor-only stores and cannabis businesses are not eligible. Businesses can sign up to participate at shop916local.com.
