The City of Sacramento is inviting residents to thank a City employee during Public Service Recognition Week, a national celebration honoring the contributions of public employees.
The City has nearly 5,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees who deliver essential services across the community. From maintaining streets and utilities to responding to emergencies, supporting housing initiatives and providing youth and community programs, their work reaches every neighborhood and enhances the quality of life for residents.
“Public service is at the heart of what we do,” said City Manager Maraskeshia Smith. “Our employees show up every day with a commitment to serve Sacramento. This week gives us a chance to recognize their dedication and the meaningful impact they have across our community.”
Across departments including Public Works, Utilities, Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment, Community Development, the Sacramento Fire Department and the Sacramento Police Department, employees work both behind the scenes and on the front lines to keep the city running.
Whether repairing roads, ensuring clean and reliable water, maintaining parks and open spaces, assisting residents through 311 or responding in times of crisis, City employees play a vital role in daily life in Sacramento and help strengthen the overall quality of life across the city.
Residents are encouraged to take a moment this week to thank a City employee and recognize the people who help keep Sacramento running.
