Explore Railyards, Sacramento Valley Station projects at July 22 open house

Learn about the projects transforming Sacramento’s historic Railyards during a free community open house Wednesday, July 22, from 5–7 p.m. at the North Plaza at Sacramento Valley Station (401 I St.).

The event marks two milestones for the district: the 20th anniversary of the landmark acquisition that launched the modern redevelopment of the Railyards and the 100th anniversary of Sacramento Valley Station.

Once the center of the region’s rail industry, the Railyards is now one of the nation’s largest urban infill redevelopment projects.

Sacramento Valley Station, which opened in 1926, has served as the region’s primary passenger rail station for a century and remains one of the busiest passenger rail stations on the West Coast. The City acquired the historic station in 2006 and completed a major rehabilitation project in 2017 that preserved its historic character while modernizing the facility.

Today, Sacramento Valley Station serves as the gateway to the Railyards, where projects planned or underway include transportation improvements, housing, commercial development, entertainment venues and public spaces.

“The Railyards have long been an important part of Sacramento’s history, and today’s investments are helping shape their next chapter,” said City Senior Development Project Manager Marco Gonzalez. “This open house is an opportunity for the community to learn about the projects underway, celebrate the district’s transformation and see how this public-private partnership will benefit residents, workers and visitors for years to come.”

At the open house, community members can meet with representatives from the organizations leading projects throughout the district, ask questions and learn about current and future projects. Information stations will include:

Community members are encouraged to take SacRT Gold Line light rail and SacRT bus routes 30 or 38 to the event. Those driving can reserve parking near the venue through the SacPark platform.
