The City of Sacramento’s Office of Nighttime Economy, in partnership with the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition, will offer free naloxone training for hospitality and nightlife staff from 3–4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27.
The training will be held at 300 Richards Blvd., room 221. Free parking is available on site.
RSVPs are required by emailing nighttime@cityofsacramento.org.
Scheduled ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31, the session will teach participants how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, including how to administer Narcan, a brand of naloxone that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.
Participants also will learn about BarCan, a program designed to help bars and entertainment venues prevent and respond to overdoses through training, resources and collaboration with the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition.
“Through partnerships with organizations such as the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition, the City can continue connecting hospitality and nightlife businesses with important overdose response training,” said City Nighttime Economy Manager Tina Lee-Vogt. “These efforts help staff feel better prepared to act during an emergency.”
Each participant will receive a complimentary Narcan kit, CPR face shield and additional overdose response resources provided by the Sacramento County Opioid Coalition.
At the Sacramento City Council meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, Mayor Kevin McCarty will present a proclamation recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day. The annual observance honors those who have died from an overdose, raises awareness about overdose prevention and encourages action to save lives.
The City offers training sessions that connect hospitality and nightlife businesses with information and resources to support safe and successful operations. More information about upcoming trainings is available on the City’s website.
