Have your say on south Sacramento levee improvements
The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency is seeking public input on proposed improvements to about three miles of the Morrison Creek and Beach Lake levees in south Sacramento. The project would raise and strengthen portions of the existing levees, improve floodwalls and make other improvements to strengthen the flood-control system. Residents can review the environmental study and submit comments through Sept. 7 at SAFCA.org.
Reserve a 2027 Camp Sacramento stay
Registration is now open for Camp Sacramento’s 2027 summer season. Located near South Lake Tahoe, Camp Sacramento offers mini and weeklong sessions for individuals and families. Some sessions are already full, but cabins remain available for select sessions on a first-come, first-served basis at CampSac.org.
Professional development scholarships available for Sacramento artists
The City’s Office of Arts and Culture is offering 450 professional development scholarships to artists living within Sacramento city limits. Each scholarship, valued at $100, covers one approved course, class or workshop. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications are open through Sept. 21 or until all 450 scholarships are claimed.
Front Street seeks foster homes for kittens
Front Street Animal Shelter is seeking foster families, particularly for kittens with upper respiratory infection symptoms and young kittens that are not yet eating on their own. Front Street provides all necessary medical care, supplies and support to foster volunteers. So far this year, 1,390 cats have been placed in foster homes, including 1,257 kittens under 8 weeks old.
Reminder: Recycle household batteries safely
Residents are reminded to keep household batteries out of curbside garbage and recycling containers because improperly discarded batteries can cause fires in collection trucks and waste-sorting facilities. Household batteries can be recycled for free at several locations throughout Sacramento. Residents can use the SacRecycle Waste Wizard to find the appropriate disposal option.
